KaruCanne : building a custom business platform in Guadeloupe

How IPEOS digitised data access for nearly 1,000 growers

Giving every grower simple, reliable access to their campaign data : that was the challenge the IguaCanne interprofession entrusted to IPEOS. A look back at the development of a custom business application in Guadeloupe, combining APIs, data valorisation and user support.

The context : a sector to structure around data

Sugarcane is Guadeloupe’s leading agricultural sector. To secure its future, the IguaCanne interprofession wanted to strengthen transparency and trust between growers, millers and SICAs. As part of a tender issued by the DEETS Guadeloupe, IPEOS was selected to design a reference digital portal : KaruCanne.

The technical challenge

Three constraints shaped the project :

  • Scattered data across several stakeholders (millers, SICAs, interprofession), in heterogeneous formats.
  • Real-time delivery of reliable indicators : tonnages, sucrose richness, subsidies, with ten campaigns of history.
  • An accessible interface for users with little digital familiarity, usable from the field.

The solution : an API-driven business platform

IPEOS

IPEOS developed KaruCanne, a custom business application. The architecture rests on three principles :

  • Automated API ingestion — programmable interfaces dialogue with the systems of the millers and the sector’s stakeholders to collect delivery data without re-keying, and guarantee its freshness.
  • IPEOS I-Administration application core — the platform is built on the IPEOS I-Administration framework, ensuring code control, security and long-term maintainability.
  • Restitution and export — a web dashboard consolidates the current campaign and the ten-year trend ; the data is exportable for the sector’s steering needs.

This choice of an open architecture, centred on interoperability, is what distinguishes a business platform from a static tool : it can evolve, interconnect and absorb new flows campaign after campaign.
