KaruCanne: IPEOS digitises the sugarcane sector in Guadeloupe

The digital transformation of Guadeloupe's sugarcane sector takes a concrete step forward. For the IguaCanne interprofession, the IPEOS teams have built KaruCanne, a business platform that aggregates the sector's data and delivers it, in real time, to every grower.

A historic sector moves to a business platform

Officially unveiled on 29 May 2026, KaruCanne is the digital portal of Guadeloupe's sugarcane industry. Born from a tender issued by the DEETS Guadeloupe and led by the IguaCanne interprofession, the project has a clear goal: make the sector more transparent and give every grower direct, real-time access to the data that concerns them.

Behind the tool lie several months of engineering led by the IPEOS I-Solutions teams, working closely with the millers, the SICAs and all the sector's stakeholders.

Consolidated, historised campaign data

KaruCanne centralises the information growers need: sector news, subsidies, delivery data, sucrose richness, tonnages and campaign history. For the 2026 campaign alone, the platform already tracks 991 active growers and more than 261,000 tonnes of cane delivered to the sugar mills, with ten campaigns of historical depth.

The challenge is not only technical, it is also human: in a sector where the average grower's age is close to fifty, the dashboard was designed to remain simple, legible and usable in the field.

An API-centric architecture

KaruCanne's reliability rests on its architecture. The platform relies on APIs that automate data exchanges with the systems of the sector's various stakeholders. It is built on the IPEOS I-Administration application core, with a PostgreSQL database and development in Python via the Django REST framework. The result: data updated automatically, traceable and exportable, rather than files re-keyed by hand.

Techcessibility: engaging and representing overseas

We introduced a whole new series of articles on techcessibility last month. In this first part, we return to our commitment in this area and to our participation in Paris in May 2018, to the implementation of a legislative proposal as part of the transposition of the EU Digital Accessibility Directive into French law.

In May 2018, we took another step towards achieving greater accessibility by participating in the Transposition of the EU Digital Accessibility Directive into French law. Through this commitment, we have affirmed our willingness to support initiatives aimed at making digital accessible to all, including in the overseas territories.

Quality digital accessibility
During this meeting, Laurent notre CTO took part in an information meeting on law enforcement with various digital accessibility stakeholders, several of whom were accompanied by the government. The discussion focused on the implications of this GAAR law, its impact on directors and the constraints associated with its rapid implementation.

During a working session, experts gave suggestions on the adaptation of the law and answered questions that naturally arise from the implementation of this project. As the only overseas company present, we represented the overseas and showed that techcessibility issues are also of concern to us in the DROM.

Specific considerations
This approach allows us to show that we are able to support administrations in the implementation of digital accessibility. We have the same needs as other actors and certain specificities can be taken into account directly by the overseas players.

It is essential that all actors involved in digital take its accessibility into account in their projects. This is why it is necessary to organize more awareness campaigns on this subject and to pilot projects that include digital accessibility.

This is an important issue that must be shared by all digital players, including in the overseas territories. We are proud to have been able to participate in this meeting and to show that we are committed to quality digital access for all.

Techcessibility: a real commitment within IPEOS

It will take more than one article to explain how we have made techcessibility a priority in our digital projects. This is only the introduction of this column dedicated to highlighting and promoting conscientious practices of better inclusions of limited people, within the digital sphere.

Techcessibility (or technological accessibility) is the set of practices that aim to make digital technologies more accessible to all users, especially those with specific needs and/or disabilities. Digital accessibility is a major concern for businesses of all sizes. More and more people are relying on technology to access information and services, but not all have the same ease of use because of disabilities or limitations.

A real market opportunity
We are convinced that techcessibility is a market opportunity for companies looking to differentiate themselves and meet customer expectations. Indeed, technological accessibility is not limited to the consideration of people with disabilities, but also meets the needs of older people, people with visual or hearing impairments, or people with cognitive impairments.

Actions beyond words
For IPEOS, digital accessibility must be integrated from the design of projects, taking into account the needs of all users from the beginning of the process. This helps to optimize the quality of the user experience and facilitate the adoption of proposed solutions.

IPEOS has put in place a Techcessibility strategy that includes several concrete actions. First, the company trained its employees to acquire the skills necessary to design and develop accessible digital solutions. We integrate accessibility tools into all our projects. The OEB states:
